The fav –> Homemade Tuna Burger w/ Mushroom Buns!
Note: Sweet Potato sliders are a good alternative if mushroom’s aren’t your thing
Ingredients (For 2 Burgers)
Patties
- Tuna Chunks/Steaks (240g)
- Spring Onion (4 sticks)
- Sweet Pepper (1 ½ )
- Sea Salt & Pepper (10ml)
- Coconut Oil (50ml)
- Lemon Zest (1 Lemon)
Bun & Filling
- Large Portobello Mushrooms or Sweet Potato Sliders (4)
- Spinach (30g)
- Tomato (½)
- Avocado or Cucumber (½) (Optional)
- Low Fat Cheddar Cheese (Slices) (1)
- Red Onion (¼)
- Mayonnaise (25ml)
Instructions
- Set oven to 200°C
- Dice tuna steak into small bits or drain tuna chunks of water into bowl
- Mash/blend tuna until smooth texture is attained
- In bowl, add other ingredients for patty, and blend/stir with ground tuna to form patty
- Form patty into round burger shapes and place each formed patty in cling film (to preserve shape)
- Place formed patties in fridge for 15 minutes to fully set and solidify
- Place patties on non-stick frying pan and fry each side briefly for about 3-5 minutes per side
- Place patties in oven (or non stick oven tray) for about 7 – 10 minutes (or grill for 6-8 minutes per side)
- Place large mushrooms in oven for 5 minutes until slightly crispy and brown/Bake sweet potato sliders till cooked
- Construct burger to desire, once patties are ready, and serve
*Ensure the patties when baked in the oven are white on the inside (pink to white)
*Depending on freshness of tuna, can leave some of it on inside pink (medium rare)
